Rina Angela Penales is Little Ms. Rosary 2009
Another reason to be proud to be HCECians came along last October 18, 2009 when Rina Angela Penales, a grade 3 pupil, bagged the first place in the Search for Little Ms. Rosary 2009 sponsored by Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in line with the celebration of the Rosary Month. The search has been part of the parish's October activities which aims to heighten the level of Marian awareness among young girls.
Twelve young girls from different private and public schools in Iriga underwent the written tests in the initial phase which measured their knowledge about the facts and life about Mary, the Mother of God. The second phase gave them opportunity to express their understanding about the meaning of praying the rosary.
Rina Angela was able to synthesize her understanding zeroing to the correct answer: "We pray the rosary to know more about Jesus and Mary." (Para makilala si Jesus at Maria). These are the words that gave Rina Angela the coveted title of Little Ms. Rosary 2009.
The coronation will be on October 25, 2009 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Credit is given to the Religion Department headed by Mdm. Christine V. Radan and to Mdm. Chrissa Igne and Shella Martinez who served as Rina's coaches.

HCECians will excel if given a fair play
The school's curriculum intends to educate pupils for life through a holistic approach. Endless lists of pupils' achievements served already as hallmarks of HCEC. High quality of pupils is the crowning glory of the school.
The product of the school's curriculum (INPUT) is the quality performance (OUTPUT) of the pupils and graduates seen as evidences in their high performance in other schools.
Whenever the school joins in any competition, preparation is also made through an after class and weekend coaching. With this, our contestants still landed on competitive ranks. HCECians have all the chances to excel if only given a fair play. It is a frustrating experience that there are times that our contestants failed to get the top award because of the lapses in the mechanics in the conduct of the contests. Efforts to contest the matter were made but to no avail due to technical rules, the said efforts were put to vain.
One of the school's 5Cs is the CHARACTER formation. The coaches instill in the minds of the pupil-contestant that what matters most in every competition is the way you did the game. It is how you played the game. It is an opportunity for the pupils to have the discipline and the opting to choose the correct values that will form their character. Remember, that the school educates the pupils for life not for contests. Joining in an inter-school competition is an effort to establish collaboration among other schools and also to gauge the pupils’ performance against the pupils' in other school (IF ONLY GIVEN A FAIR PLAY).

• UN Celebration- October 26
The Grade School will remember and celebrate the United Nations' Day on Monday, October 26, 2009 in its simplest but meaningful activities. This will feature flag making of the assigned country, Art Activity, Essay and Poem Writing Activity (not a contest, but the works will be included in the Buradol issue. Let your kids bring art papers, glue and one folder slider.) Parade of Nations will highlight the program in the afternoon. This activity aims to inform the kids the facts and important roles of the United Nations Organization in universal development. This year’s theme: Environmental Sustainability: An Important Tool in Poverty Alleviation will be the focal point of the activity.
• Campus Living Rosary-October 27
The traditional Campus Living Rosary (CLR) is set to be said on October 27, 2009 right after the morning rituals. This CLR will be participated in by grade school pupils and some volunteer- parents which will become part of the human rosary.
• Literacy Month Culminating Activity- October 28- AM
October is Literacy Month that placed the grade schoolers into an alert status in terms of literary awareness. Multiple activities that enriched the different literary genre were conducted the whole of October. In the morning of October 28, 2009, the culminating program will be staged featuring the winners of the different literary contests.
• HCEC Halloween: Trick Or Treat on October 28
Halloween for all but not for all
Almost all are now looking forward to the Scary Wednesday! What? A Scary Wednesday? Yup! On Wednesday, October 28 the witches, the ghosts, the elves and other creatures will party at HCEC. It’s the Grade School Halloween Party: A Trick or Treat. This is FOR ALL grade school pupils and everyone is required to attend the party as part of the sem-ender activity. The wearing of Halloween costume is NOT FOR ALL, it is only for those who are willing to be in costume. We encourage that the simplest costume will be worn so as not to give this stuff a problem to the parents. Let’s party, come in costume, but don’t forget to register.
Trick or Treat Booth by PTA Parents
Thanks to the PTA Executive Board officers headed by the President, Mr. Dindo Zoilo Ibaretta in approving the proposed involvement of the parents in the Halloween Party by providing the Trick or Treat Booth. The level parents will man the booth and will prepare the candies and goodies for the children who will visit the booth for the Trick or Treat Game. So, don't forget to let your child carry a Halloween basket for their treats of candies.

A. Eat everything in a day, anyway, they are all mine.
B. Eat some and save them for some other day. That will be my week-long supply of sugar…
C. Eat some and save for some Christmas give- away.

If you will choose B, you will have your visit to the clinic maybe next month.

Those who can save their Halloween Treat Candies will have to bring them back to school in December for “The Give a Candy Project”.
A plan to have Shakey's Iriga as Halloween Party Host and Food Caterer
To add color to the Scary Wednesday at HCEC, Shakey's Iriga will join the HCECians in the Halloween Party: A Trick or Treat as Party Host and food caterer. They will provide the kids the fun games and exciting prizes that will complete the party. The party package cost at Php150.00 per pupil that includes the party give- away, prizes , the food- (chicken, spaghetti, pizza, mojos, garlic bread and drinks) and mascot appearance. This is a great offer which will give A WORRY-FREE PARTY both for the kids and mommies who will be preparing the merienda to be brought to school. But we want to make a survey on how many will avail of the package?
If we can get the MAJORITY of grade schoolers, we will push through with the plan of getting Shakey’s. If not, the original plan of bringing food for merienda will de done. We want everyone to enjoy the party and we don’t want that there are kids who will be left-out.
Please find the Order Slip on the last page. The slip must be returned to the class adviser ON MONDAY. If by then, we don’t get the entire pupils, we will drop- off the plan.
• BSP/GSP Camping –October 29-31
The green troops are coming, marching on their way to the camp site with vigor, strength, excitement and pride. The 11th Institutional Joint Encampment of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout is trooping its way on October 29-31, 2009. Camp site is ready, the tents and pegs are waiting to be erected, bag packs are already out to be on the site, and the scouters are in full-gear, ready to be challenged in the most sought - after activities. The rigid and vigorous line up of events excite the kids more.
Aside from the kids who can't sleep anymore by this, can't wait to have their camps are the parents, especially of those who are first - time campers. Apprehensions and worries overwhelm these parents just the thought of their kids who for the first time will sleep away from the comforts of their home and from the ever-ready assisting hands of the yayas or mothers. But don't worry, mommies and daddies, your children are no longer babies. They know and will learn more on how to spell and live with the word responsible-independency. Parents have visiting hours, so watch-out for the schedule of visiting hours.
PTA Officers to conduct blood typing
The PTA Executive Board will conduct a Blood Typing Activity among scouters during the camping as one of their projects. The blood typing is not compulsory and only for those with parents’ permission are to be given. Knowing one’s blood type is crucial in emergency cases. Pupils who will have the blood typing will be given an ID card bearing their names and blood type.
This project will be spearheaded by Mrs. Theresa Sta. Rosa, a Medical Technologist under the headship of the PTA EB President, Mr. Dindo Zoilo Ibarreta.
A beautiful prayer that mirrors our sentiments
Mdm. Terry (our School Directress) handed over to me a page of Philippine Daily Inquirer during the Morning Ritual. Wondering what is in there, I turned out the page and saw a one-page prayer from Diocese of Legazpi. Browsing through it while the morning ritual is going on, I fell in love with the prayer. It is a beautiful prayer that mirrors our sentiments as human stewards of mother earth.
As a community that adheres to the preservation of environment and humanity, the prayer will be said everyday this October and every Friday from November onwards.
